    Give me your handĀ
The dog in the garden row is covered in mudĀ
    And dragging your mother’s clothesĀ
    Cinder and smokeĀ
    The snake in the basementĀ
    Found the juniper shadeĀ
    The farmhouse is burning downĀ

    Give me your handĀ
And take what you will tonight, I’ll give it as fastĀ
And high as the flame will riseĀ
    Cinder and smokeĀ
    Some whispers around the treesĀ
    The juniper bendsĀ
    As if you were listeningĀ

    Give me your handĀ
Your mother is drunk as all the firemen shake
    A photo from father’s armsĀ
    Cinder and smokeĀ
You’ll ask me to pray for rainĀ
    With ash in your mouthĀ
You’ll ask it to burn again

in the cover he looks like he’s at peace, in death. like this song is playing for him at the end of his life. and i wonder at the end of mine will it be this song i hear as i close my eyes one last time. and will i look even so at peace

a boy is trying to save a girl from herself, a girl he probably loves and cares for, a girl who doesn’t love him back or for that matter doesn’t love anyone or anything including herself…he tries to fix her but she doesn’t care she wants bad things for herself…

the song depicts a loose attitude on the part of the boy, he is concerned about the girl but is tired of trying to save her…that is why he notices all the useless things with such attention at the time of the fire because he is used to the girl doing things like burning her house down…he is not shocked at all, he is in his usual thoughtful mode and thinks that, all my efforts trying to save this girl i love are useless because she wants all this destruction

Here because I can’t sleep, but sitting here in the dark listening to this is making me think insomnia is underrated.
