Sustainable Management Of Insects In The Vineyard – Yealands Family Wines
Sustainable winery –
New Zealand is home to a large grasshopper-like insect called the Weta. In vineyards they cause a lot of damage by eating the fresh grape buds.
Vineyard Manager, Gareth Goodsir explains how Yealands have found a sustainable way to protect their grape harvest, without having to spray pesticides.
A plastic sleeve wrapped around the grape trunk stops the Wetas from reaching the buds.
